CROWN JEWELS OF THE GARDEN
Many urban farmers transform vacant land into garden areas for the community and I was lucky to connect with one superstar grower at Julia’s Apron. Tamara Toole (and her bad ass mom Barbara) spearheaded a community garden passion project. After visiting their garden they allowed me to harvest this sun kissed bounty! I went home and threw on my apron and created some culinary magic . The result…garden fresh watermelon gazpacho, eggplant and tomato dip, chopped kale and parsley salad and jars of pickled green tomatoes. Packaged in individual containers, Tamara and Barbara were able to share with their community.
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” — Winston Churchill (quoted on Julia’s Apron website)
